How Hardcore works
What survives death
When a Hardcore character dies, it can be moved into another ruleset, and the gold on it moves too. In Classic the only destination was Normal; in Forever PvP is allowed as well.
That changes what a Hardcore purchase risks. One bad pull ends the run, not the balance.
What is not announced yet
Blizzard has named the destinations and little else. There is no exact date beyond winter, no word on whether a moved character can ever return to Hardcore, and no word on any cost for the move. Progress can leave Hardcore; nothing flows back in.

Questions about Hardcore gold
If my Hardcore character dies, do I lose the gold?
No. The character can move to another ruleset and keeps what it carries. You lose the Hardcore run, not the gold.
When does Hardcore arrive?
Blizzard's roadmap says winter 2026, after launch. Forever opens on November 4 with Normal, PvP and Roleplay.
